Lack of Updates

Some of you have noticed the lack of updates on ServeYourWorld. We have been working on a brand new service we are very excited about and some parts of our site have suffered.

However, between May 13th and September we are going full throttle to expand the site. We hope you enjoy it.

A Special Request for Volunteers

Normally we do not advertise volunteer opportunities in the site blog, but we decided to make an exception in this case:

A ministry of International Baptist Church of Düsseldorf is looking for a missionary teacher.

As a teacher at Noah's Ark Children's Center you will spend your days encouraging international children ages 3 and 4 years old to grow in their emotional, physical, social, intellectual and spiritual lives. Not only will you enjoy helping the children discover letters, numbers, colors and shapes; you will also help them to realize that God loves them and made them special. Teaching at Noah's Ark also provides wonderful opportunities to encourage the families of these children as they are often from other countries and are in Düsseldorf, Germany for a short time. The position provides many opportunities to share God's unchanging love with children and families whose lives are filled with change.

Requirements:

Christian
Female
Native English speaker
Minimum of one years experience as a teacher

Applicants must provide:

A statement of faith and personal testimony
Description of call to missions
Resume
Proof of Diploma

No volunteer opportunities for Sudan

I have searched far and wide for Sudan volunteer opportunities but have yet to come up with good leads.

My suspicions that Sudan is largely devoid of volunteer opportunities is confirmed in this ReliefWeb article:

"These days we no longer have the volunteer programs of the 1970s when young Europeans went to the Sudan to teach skills."

I will continue to dig around but it is unlikely volunteer opportunities will develop in Sudan within the next few months.

$100 Computer for the Third World

The Red Herring has an article on MIT's quest to build a $100 computer:

"The low-cost computer will have a 14-inch color screen, AMD chips, and will run Linux software, Mr. Negroponte said during an interview Friday with Red Herring at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. AMD is separately working on a cheap desktop computer for emerging markets. It will be sold to governments for wide distribution."

I have always believed technology is the key to real development in the third world. Hopefully this will be a big step in the right direction.

Our Geek Volunteering article will be published in the next few days and we hope techies find some good volunteering opportunities abroad.

ServeYourWorld 3.0 Released!

After many months of work we are pleased to announce the release of the third version of ServeYourWorld.

We have added 200 more articles, a new forum, a new design, and a volunteer link directory containing over 800 links.

This is just the first step. Over the next few months we will be including hundreds more articles and guides to our collection.

We look forwards to taking ServeYourWorld to the next level.
