Hand-washing clothes is a cheap, easy, and sometimes neccessary skill to know while volunteering abroad.
It is best to hand-wash clothing daily before bed, this allows you to limit your laundry to only one outfit (the one you wore during the day) and allows the clothing six to ten hours to dry while you sleep.
1. Soak your garment in a sink of soapy water for 5 minutes.
2. Wet your hands and the bar of soap.
3. Place the soap on the garment in a large area of cloth.
4. Take your palm and scrub the top of the soap bar to produce a soapy lather. Let the lather fall onto the garment below.
5. Once the garment is well lathered, take the bar of soap off the garment.
6. Hold two parts of the garment and rub them vigorously against each other in a circular motion.
7. Repeat step six on several points on the garment.
8. Next rinse the garment under warm/hot water.
9. Repeat steps two through eight a few times before completely wringing the garment out.
10. Hang and let dry overnight.
